Djelloul Chetouane in Africa News: Moroccan–Israeli normalisation and its impact on regional security

In its issue 1225 of Wednesday 25 June 2025 (page 16), Africa News published an op-ed by Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc President Djelloul Chetouane entitled “Morocco, gateway to chaos: how the Makhzen is becoming a Zionist spearhead in North Africa”.

The author argues that since the official normalisation of 2020, Moroccan–Israeli relations have moved beyond trade and tourism to intelligence cooperation, military agreements and joint exercises, turning Morocco, in his analysis, into a platform for projects that target the security of Algeria, Mauritania, Libya and the Sahel.

The article concludes that these shifts call for heightened national and regional vigilance and a steadfast commitment to just causes and the right of peoples to self-determination.
