Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc condemns El Fasher massacres, calls for independent international inquiry on Sudan
Official statement by the Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc on the grave humanitarian situation in Sudan
The Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc is following with deep concern and profound regret the tragic deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation in brotherly Sudan, particularly in Darfur, where grave violations against civilians and horrific massacres of innocent people continue, most recently in the city of El Fasher, which has seen systematic killing and destruction targeting hospitals, civilian facilities and camps for displaced people.
In condemning in the strongest terms these acts, which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, the Bloc stresses that what is happening in Sudan goes beyond an internal conflict and reveals suspect attempts to undermine the unity of the Sudanese state and destabilise it by supporting and arming outlaw armed groups.
In this context, the Bloc expresses its deep concern at international and regional reports pointing to external support provided by certain parties, foremost the United Arab Emirates, to the Rapid Support Forces, an interference that constitutes a flagrant violation of Sudan's sovereignty and a direct threat to its territorial integrity and national security.
In keeping with its moral and humanitarian responsibility, the Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc:
- expresses its full solidarity with the brotherly Sudanese people in their current ordeal and prays for the innocent victims;
- condemns the continuing massacres of civilians and calls for an urgent, independent international investigation into the crimes committed in Darfur and other affected areas;
- calls on the UN Security Council, the African Union and the League of Arab States to take immediate measures to protect civilians, support national reconciliation efforts and preserve Sudan's unity;
- urges the international community to end any external support that fuels the conflict and to ensure respect for Sudan's sovereignty and the independence of its national decision-making;
- reaffirms its steadfast commitment to Sudan's territorial integrity and its categorical rejection of any attempt at partition or foreign tutelage over its resources.
Sudan is a country with a long history and civilisation, and its people can overcome this ordeal once they are united and the sincere efforts of their Arab, African and international neighbours come together to support its stability.
