Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc: foreign policy is the President’s reserved domain, not a field for point-scoring

Algeria’s foreign policy is neither a field for tugs-of-war nor an arena for point-scoring: the nation’s Constitution defines its paths and mechanisms and makes it a domain reserved for the President of the Republic, the sole maker of foreign-policy decisions on behalf of the Algerian nation. The State’s diplomatic apparatus is tasked with implementing this policy precisely, in keeping with the nation’s principles and constitutional framework.

Accordingly, no voice rises above that of the Constitution, and our foreign policy has no source other than its constitutional legitimacy.

In this context, some parties came out today to attack Algerian diplomacy and criticise the position taken by our country on the latest Security Council resolution on the Palestinian question and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Such an outburst, lacking even a basic understanding of how diplomacy works, reveals to the public questionable motives that have nothing to do with national consensus or with support for the Palestinian cause.

Attempting to harness the country’s foreign policy for narrow, factional political battles is unacceptable behaviour and a desperate attempt to exploit a central cause of the nation for gains unrelated to the national interest. Those behind such conduct must understand that partisan and narrow agendas have no place in steering sovereign decisions, and that a strong national State will never allow its diplomatic decisions to become a bargaining chip.

Position of Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc

The Bloc affirms that Algerian foreign policy is a pillar of national security, governed by the Constitution and the will of the nation alone, and that its sovereign decisions are not subject to point-scoring or malicious interpretation. It reiterates that Algeria’s support for Palestine is principled and non-negotiable, and that Algerian diplomacy always acts within the State’s principles and strategic depth.

The voice of the Constitution is the hallmark of national decision-making and the will of the nation the sole guarantor of the State’s standing; the Bloc will remain vigilant in exposing every attempt to muddy or narrowly exploit vital national issues.
